We have an immediate need for a Utility Warehouse Technician
This is a temporary position.

Under general supervision, performs a variety of custodial, gardening, mechanical and maintenance duties.
 
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This classification is distinguished from the position of Janitor, in that duties performed require a higher degree of physical effort and maintenance duties may vary according to area of assignment.
    
*This position, at times, requires the management of hazardous materials or waste and thus requires mandatory training in hazardous waste operations, hazardous materials spill response, and/or hazardous materials communication.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Performs clean-up of auto shop including auto shop, body/electric shops, offices, lunchroom, and surrounding yards.
2. Cleans restroom and surrounding area, and keeps soap, towel and paper dispenser full.
3. Checks with receiving and picks up parts as requested.
4. Assists mechanics in the performance of their duties including lifting parts into place, cleaning parts, and other activities related to auto-repair.
5.In-depth experience in the operation of forklifts

Education and Experience
  • High school equivalent and one year of general shop and equipment maintenance experience.
  • California Drivers license.
 Knowledge of:
  • Cleaning floors and walls; steam cleaning and chemical pumps; cleaning materials, disinfectants, and equipment used in custodial work
  • Prevention of toxic mixture of lubricants in compliance with Environmental Protection Agency Regulations
  • Forklift and other lifting devices procedures; hand and power tools, materials and equipment used in shop, power tool repair, or equipment maintenance
  • Basic repair of electrical, pneumatic and mechanical power tools; and safe work practices and procedures.
  • Experience working in a warehouse environment, conducting inventory, making deliveries, putting up stock, issuing materials, janitorial work, salvage separation a big plus.

a. Forklift, pumps, steam cleaner, wheel barrow, shovel, push broom, paint brush, hammer, hand tools, wrenches, socket sets, mops, buckets, squeegee, face mask, ladder, hydraulic lift, face shield, ear protection, safety glasses, hard hat, scoop shovel, power tools, pickup truck, pry bar.
 
Licensing
a. A valid drivers license issued by the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles is required.
 
Language Skills
a. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
b. Ability to write simple notes.
c. Ability to communicate information in one-on-one situations to supervisors, and other employees of the organization.
 
Mathematical Skills
a. Ability to do simple addition and subtraction, multiplication, and division.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee occasionally is exposed to risk of electrical shock and vibration.  The employee frequently is exposed to extreme heat and hot vaporized steam and cleaning agents.
 
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
