Our client, a privately held engineering and manufacturing company in the critical power systems space is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join its growing team. The company designs and supports complex power distribution and control systems used in demanding environments, including defense, marine, and data center applications. 
Military or Marine/Maritime industry experience is required.
This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys owning projects end-to-end: from concept and design through production support, field issues, and long-term system sustainment.

Role Overview
The Senior Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the design, engineering, and validation of a range of power and control equipment, including:
  • LV/MV/HV switchgear and switchboards
  • Motor control equipment
  • Relay and protection panels
  • Associated control and monitoring systems
You’ll work closely with internal teams (engineering, production, QA) and external stakeholders (customers, suppliers, subcontractors) to ensure that systems are delivered on time, meet technical requirements, and perform reliably in the field.

Key Responsibilities
Design & Engineering
  • Develop electrical designs, schematics, and documentation for power distribution and control systems.
  • Engineer solutions for both new builds and retrofit/obsolescence replacement projects.
  • Ensure designs meet applicable standards and customer specifications (e.g., MIL, ABS, ANSI, IEEE, UL).
  • Support qualification activities to relevant MIL/IEC requirements (shock, vibration, EMI, etc.).
Production & Project Support
  • Provide day-to-day engineering support to assembly, wiring, and test/QA teams.
  • Address issues arising during build and FAT/SAT, including troubleshooting and design adjustments.
  • Prepare and maintain drawings, bills of material, and technical submittals for active projects.
  • Participate in project planning, tracking progress and milestones using tools such as Microsoft Project/Planner.
Customer & Field Interface
  • Partner with sales/proposal teams on technical content for bids and new opportunities.
  • Discuss technical options and design approaches directly with customers as needed.
  • Provide occasional on-site support for commissioning, troubleshooting, or project review (travel as required by project load).
Continuous Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to improve product designs, workflows, and documentation.
  • Contribute to engineering best practices and process refinement within an ISO 9001 quality environment.

Required Background
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Computer, or Mechatronic Engineering.
  • Experience:
    • 7+ years of experience in electrical product and system design, ideally with power distribution/switchgear or closely related equipment.
 
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Strong background with low, medium, and high-voltage switchgear and associated components (e.g., voltage regulators, governors, protection relays, synchronizing controls).
    • Experience with PLC-based control systems and programming in ladder logic, function block, and/or structured text.
    • Familiarity with common industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, and CAN-based networks (serial and Ethernet).
    • Ability to interpret and design to relevant industry and military standards (MIL, ABS, ANSI, IEEE, UL).
    • Exposure to qualification testing to MIL/IEC standards for shock, vibration, and EMI.
  • Tools & Skills:
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office and common productivity tools.
    • Experience with CAD tools (AutoCAD; SolidWorks or similar is a plus).
    • Strong technical writing skills for reports, specifications, and proposal input.
    • Solid communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Licensure:
    • Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred but not required.
