Area Quality Manager

While reporting to the Area Manufacturing Manager, the Senior Quality Manager provides quality leadership for the Alloyd division. This position will have multisite responsibility and the position will require travel to all division facilities throughout the year. The Senior Quality Manager is the single point of contact for customers related to quality and is the division expert on food grade certifications, specifically AIB and GFSI. This position also determines market and customer requirements.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Lead cross-plant teams to develop corrective and preventative actions on major quality events
  • Represent Sonoco with customers on major quality and process improvement initiatives for all plants within the division
  • Responsible for assuring productivity driven projects maintain standards and continue to meet customer requirements
  • Manage the Quality Management Review (SQMR) process monthly
  • Train and develop Plant Quality Managers
  • Monitor, score and develop improvement plans for Preventive and Corrective action systems
  • Own the Change Control Process within the division, including approving product and process changes
  • Lead all third party and customer audit activities within the market segment
  • Conduct field product audits for market segments to identify performance capability
  • Assure product safety compliance for the market segment and sub-contractors
  • Lead the supplier product safety audits
  • Lead corporate quality process audit
  • Mentor Plant Quality Managers to ensure compliance audits are kept current and corrective actions are completed in a timely manner; includes AIB, GFSI, ISO, FSC, SFI etc.
  • Provide Lean Six Sigma project leadership and/or mentoring for plants
  • Provide quarterly reviews and scorecards for customers in the market segment
  • Coordinate follow-up to VOC survey results
  • Drive standardization across multiple plants’ products and services
  • Significant travel requirements

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a bachelor’s degree and 7-10+ years’ experience in quality role in manufacturing
  • Significant experience in food packaging certifications and audits experience preparing manufacturing facilities for their initial food grade certification audit preferred
  • Experience within the plastics industry or packaging industry required, Experience with offset printing, thermoforming, blister and heat seal tool manufacturing and machinery manufacturing preferred
  • Lean / TPM experience related to Quality, TPM beyond the Quality Management Pillar preferred
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification, Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification or CQE preferred
  • Analytical skills; strategic selling education; statistical analysis expertise
  • Excellent verbal & written communications skills; strong presentation skills

MUST HAVES:

1. Have SOLID Food industry certification experience (AIB and GFSI preferred but not required)

2. Must have manufacturing experience

3. Able to manager multiple sites (will have 3 sites)

4. Must have had Solid Quality Mgmt experience
