Controller (Non-Profit) / Partial Remote

This is a full-time, partial remote role. The incumbent in this position is required to report to the office at least 1 - 2 times / week.

We are seeking a Controller to become an integral part of our team! You will oversee financial activities and personnel as well as identify areas of improvement to increase efficiency. The Controller will manage accounting operations for a non-profit organization. In this highly visible role, you will oversee the collection of data and information for use in financial statement reports in addition to supervising budget planning.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and coordinate all financial activities and personnel
  • Set controls and budgets to mitigate risk and increase return on investments
  • Standardize and maintain a system of accounting records and techniques
  • Conduct internal audits to assess financial status
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations
  • Serve as primary contact for external auditors

Qualifications:

  • This is an extraordinary opportunity for a mature leader with seven (7) to ten (10) years of accounting and finance experience, ideally beginning in accounting and audit, followed by experience gathering, evaluating, presenting and reporting financial information to executive teams and external stakeholders. She or he will ideally have experience in a complex nonprofit that has multiple programs.
  • Minimum of a Bachelors degree in accounting; CPA or MBA is a plus  
  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures.
  • Fundamental knowledge of GAAP
  • Technology savvy with experience selecting and overseeing software installations and managing relationships with software vendors; advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software
  • Experienced in QuickBooks and QuickBooks migration
  • Commitment to recruiting, mentoring, training, and retaining a diverse team; the foresight and ability to delegate accordingly
  • Knowledgeable in HR and payroll functions
  • Strong budgeting and P&L skills
  • Experience selecting and working with contractors / vendors
  • Strong leadership qualities
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Deadline and detail-oriented
